I'm trying out the game and it's pretty interesting. I am about 8-9 days old and am getting some kicks out of mining in 0.4 space. I was otw to grab a secure can and got caught by a maller pirate in in my industrial. The pirate messages me and says 5 million or i blow you up. I told the guy the ship is only worth 200k and he/she blew me up then scrambled the pod. He then says pay up or ill blow up the pod and i'm actually laughing IRL going OMG NO i have to buy another clone at 70k. So other than the time lost it a great learning experience.
I guess my question is are all pirates that stupid or did i just meet the short bus pirate ?

Originally by: KIAEddZ Its a reasonable demand. 8 day old players don't often frequent 0.4, so the pirate probably thought he had a Alt of some sorts, and assuch you could of easily had some decent mods on your frig, aor implants in your head.
But more to the point, HOW did a maller manage to get your pod locked b4 you warped off?
Next time, as your ship goes boom, click on a celestial object, and hit warp to in your selected item section of the overview.
It's actually the first time a PC has locked me and to be perfectly honest i wasn't in a hurry to jump to a BM. Kinda wanted to see what would happen. As i say though i figured no big deal buying another clone.

Originally by: Famine Aligher'ri I think all of you are missing the fact. Even if he was a alt and a rich player it doesn't mean anything. People don't pay because they have money or they're a alt. That gives them more of a reason to be blown up and not care about it. The reason I say this is because even though the ransom was to high for Kay Brack, he had nothing of worth on his ship and or clone. So to ransom something that's not worth anything gets you a free corpse and some basic cargo expanders. In short, if he would of dropped the ransom down to like 1 million isk. He would of had a better chance to walk away with 1million isk instead of a corpse and 20,000 worth of junk that he prob left in the container.
It's not just that pirate, most pirates think like that. I mean look at the responces to this thread. 95% of the responces agree the guy was doing fine. Yet in reality he gained no isk. Which if you're a pirate. Is a bad thing. The object of being a Pirate is to umm walk away with something of value. Like umm 1 million work of isk or a physical object.
Thats closer but i probably would have only paid 500 or 700k. My net loss was around 300k or so after insurance. My clone was at the starter navy place so i just bought another hauler and about 8 or 9 jumps to get back. I read up on the sec stuff though tonight after it happened and it's even funnier that the sec hits he/she took for getting nothing :P

The guy was probably more than happy by getting your corpse. Ransom is just a bonus, its been said before dont wanna get blown up stay outa 0.4 or below space!
LOL you got it wrong friend there is absolutely no reason for me to stay out of 0.4 and below space. At my level and gear in fact now is the best time to check out <0.5
Even moreso now that that i've seen that as long as i have insurance i loose next to nothing.

Sorry if i offended you. I personally think there are pirates in this game but the one i met hardly fits that catagory. My definition of a pirate would be a ruthless person who's moves would involve calculated attacks to make money.
If you want to kill PC's without defences just do it but hiding behind the name of "pirate" is like a bank robber wannabe killing homeless people in alleys.
